DescriptionDiploglottis campbellii.jpg |
Diploglottis campbellii Family : Sapindaceae Australian rainforest tree from northern New South Wales and southeastern Queensland. Growing to 30 metres tall, it is commonly known as the Small-leaved Tamarind, referring to Diploglottis australis - 'Native Tamarind', but they are not related to the true Tamarind Tamarindus indica at all! However, like Tamarind, it has an edible sour fruit, and stone inside. And, actually, "Large-fruited Tamarind" would be more appropriate name for it than "Small-leaved Tamarind". I really like the taste and it deserves to be more popular in Australia cultivation. I found and photographed this tree in the local park in Brisbane: - see more photos: www.flickr.com/photos/tgerus/5811438143/in/photostream/ www.flickr.com/photos/tgerus/5812003338/in/photostream/ |
