Description
English: U.S. Navy Machinist Donald E. Runyon of Fighting Squadron 6 (VF-6), USS Enterprise (CV-6), is tendered a testimonial dinner in the wardroom by fellow officers after he shot down four Japanese planes in two days. He was credited with shooting down two bombers on 7 August, the first day of the Allied invasion of the Solomon Islands, and another bomber and a Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero fighter on the 8th. These planes are symbolized by the miniature Japanese flags frosted on the icing of the cake, 10 August 1942.
