Description
English: Iron-carbon binary phase diagram and solidification of hypoeutectic grey cast iron:
  • on the graphite diagram (green line):
    • nucleation and growth of dendritic austenite,
    • nucleation and growth of lamellar graphite/austenite (2.03 %C) eutectic;
  • on the cementite diagram (red line): transformation of austenite in the same way as hypereutectoid steel, the graphite staying as it is:
    • nucleation and growth of proeutectoid cementite at austenite grain boundaries,
    • formation of perlite.
