Description
Deutsch: Tambour/Spielmann und Melder des 6. Rheinischen Infanterie-Regiments Nr. 68 auf Heimaturlaub in Mönchengladbach im Spätsommer 1917. Die Schulterstücke der Uniform machen den Soldaten als Tambour kenntlich und wurden auch Schwalbennester genannt.

Der Soldat hieß Hubert Janzen (* 16. Februar 1898 in Mönchengladbach; † 10. Dezember 1990 in Königswinter) und nahm vom März 1916 bis zum Oktober 1918 am Ersten Weltkrieg teil. In den letzten Kriegstagen erlitt er eine Gasvergiftung und erhielt einen Granatsplitter ins linke Bein, an deren Folgen er den Rest seines Lebens litt. Aufgrund seiner Verletzungen wurde er im Zweiten Weltkrieg nicht wieder eingezogen.

Er war zu der Zeit im Zivilberuf Schreinergeselle und ist hier mit seinem Bruder Gerhard abgebildet. Das Foto wurde aus Anlass der elterlichen Silberhochzeit aufgenommen. Die im Bild sichtbare Krawatte stammte mit Sicherheit aus regionaler, höchstwahrscheinlich aus Krefelder Produktion.
