Summary[edit]
DescriptionDeparting St Ives - geograph.org.uk - 1224417.jpg |
English: Departing St Ives The half-hourly shuttle service to St Erth heads away from St Ives station. The branch line was opened in 1877, and transformed St Ives from a remote fishing village into a major tourist destination. In common with many other branches, closure was threatened in the 1960s (there was even a proposal to close the entire railway network in Cornwall). However, in 1979 a new park and ride halt was opened at Lelant Saltings, giving the branch a new role bringing car-borne tourists into this very popular but, in summer, hopelessly congested resort. |
