Description
English: 1940 Dennis "Big 6" Pump Escape GNB 217 : This appliance was supplied to Manchester Fire Brigade in April 1940 and cost £1,620. The chassis is a Dennis "Big 6" Low-Loadline model and the original engine was a Meadows 6-cylinder 115bhp petrol unit. A Dennis 800 galls/min (3600 l/min) pump is fitted and there is a 40-gallon (180 litre) first aid tank. the bodywork is to MFB specification and carries a Morris "Ajax" 60 ft (18m) wodden wheeled escape. It originally served at London Road fire s tation. In 1958 the Meadows engine was replaced by a Gardner 6LW diesel engine, after which the appliance served on the reserve fleet and, later, the Training School.
