Summary[edit]

Description
English: Bordeaux Embarkation Camp. 01/24/1919. Lormont, Gironde, France. Disrobing room. This room is divided into 10 sections (A to J), each accommodates 30 men. Each seat along the benches is numbered and each man removes his clothing and hangs it on hooks in a section of the rack bearing a similar number. An NCO is in charge of each section and it is his duty to decide what clothes are unserviceable and should be salvaged. These are thrown in G.I. cans and the item is checked on the individual clothing slips. Blankets are also hung on the rack and shoes and gas masks laid on the bottom. This picture shows the rack ready to slide into the delousing chamber (with the exception of the blankets which the men have wrapped around themselves; these were put on the rack immediately after the picture was made). A can of salvaged clothing can be seen near the rack. Major H. H. Snively, MC., can be seen giving instructions. Cpl Paul, in charge of this section, is at the end of the rack, papers in hand, one of his assistants is on his left. Victims in blankets can be seen in various places. The watch word in this room is “Remember your section and number” because you will find your disinfected clothing on the same rack in a similarly numbered section, in the dressing room directly opposite on the other side of the delousing chamber. World War 1.
