English: A C-130 Hercules gets a fresh charge of Phos-Chek fire retardant at the Channel Island Air National Guard Station, Calif., on July 31, 2000. The Hercules, equipped with the Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System, is being used on the Manter Fire in the Sequoia National Forest, Calif. More than 2,300 servicemembers from the Army, Marines, Air and Army Guard and Air Force Reserve are conducting firefighting and support operations for the Western wildfires in response to requests from the National Interagency Firefighting Center in Boise, Idaho, and as directed by the governors of several states. The Hercules is deployed to Channel Island from the 302nd Airlift Wing, Colorado Springs, Colo. |
