DescriptionDeadvlei Tree (49186683317).jpg |
One of the dead and preserved trees in Deadvlei, Sussusvlei, Namibia. Deadvlei is a white clay pan located inside the Namib-Naukluft Park. It was formed when the Tsauchab river flooded and made shallow pools where camel thorn trees grew. The water dried up after the climate changed and sand dunes blocked the river. The tree skeletons are believed to have died are not petrified, but the wood hasn't decomposed because it is so dry. |
