Text Appearing Before Image:
long time shestopped, and I asked her if there was anything else shewanted to say. No, she said, I think I have said about enough. I have no doubt of it, said I, and walked out 01the room and towards my carriage. It dawned upon her feeble little mind that I was go-ing home without seeing her boy, and she followed. Shebegan to beg, and when she was convinced that beggingwould do no good she tried flattery, and said all mannerof nice things. Finding this plan worked no better thanthe other, she wilted, and began again to plead for me togo back and see her boy. He is not out of danger yet, she said, and Icannot think of allowing any one else to treat him. Docome in and prescribe for him, and I will never sayanother wicked word about you as long as I live. Do you mean it? said I. If you do, I will enterinto a contract vi^ith you. If you will agree never toabuse me again, and always treat me in a respectful andladylike manner, I will go in and see your boy and treathim until he gets well.
Text Appearing After Image:
The old lady stood in front of me and gesticulatedwith both hands. Reminiscences 193 She agreed, and we returned to the house appar-ently the best of friends. When I called the next day, however, she began another tirade, but when reminded ofher contract and told that if she referred to that matteragain I would discontinue my visits at once, she becamesilent and did not again refer to it until her boy hadrecovered. Then I allowed her to mention it, not havingthe heart to deprive her of that pleasure any longer; soI let her talk, and really enjoyed it as well as she. Butphysicians, as a rule, are elegantly treated by the betterclass of people. In looking over the world, in my mus-ings, I can see the good people everywhere showing theirappreciation of the members of the medical profession. They treat them courteously, and in many ways showtheir respect for these guardians of their health. Thebetter class not only treat their own physicians cordially, but they treat them all so. The well-in
