Description

A New Zealand BMX star has donated his bike to a local club after officers managed to track it down months after it was stolen.

Nine-year-old Rico Bearman was in Birmingham to compete in the UCI World BMX Championships held at the National Indoor Arena back in May 2012. But hours before he was due to compete his BMX was stolen after the thief scaled a security fence.

Despite the loss Rico went on to beat 80 other riders to lift the crown in the 9-year-old age group category - his third world title in just four years.

After his victory Rico returned home to New Zealand. But six months later an eagle-eyed member of Birmingham BMX club spotted the stolen bike for sale on the internet.Officers recovered the bike and the star, who had bough a new one donated it to a local club.
