Danforth Avenue in August 1912

Original caption: "
Before the arrival of the TRC’s new streetcar line in the fall of 1913, today’s Danforth Ave. (now better known simply as “The Danforth”) was nothing more than a dirt concession road as seen in this summer, 1912, photo from the City of Toronto Archives. Although today’s busy thoroughfare bears the name of American road contractor, Asa Danforth Jr, Asa actually had nothing to do with the creation of Danforth Ave. However, Asa did lay out the initial vestiges of Scarborough’s Danforth Road.
