Dalen offentlige skole for blinde, tidligere spesialskole for blinde, grunnlagt 1886 på Gløshaugen som Den Nordenfjeldske Blindeskole. Skolen kjøpte 1907 Dalen og oppførte en skolebygning der. Dalen var 1912-25 landsdekkende utdanningsinstitusjon for blinde, og det ble bl.a. utdannet flere blinde organister her. Senere var skolen barneskole for blinde.

Dalen ble beslaglagt av tyskerne under den annen verdenskrig, og de blinde elevene ved skolen ble flyttet til Klæbu og Torshus folkehøgskole på Fannrem. Bygningene ble bl.a. brukt til fengsel og det ble pådømt flere krigsrettssaker her. Tyskerne underminerte bygningene med 4,5 tonn sprengstoff. Etter krigen vendte blindeskolen tilbake, men flyttet 1976 til Tambartun i Melhus, og barnevernsinstituttet Dronning Mauds Minne overtok Dalen.

Hovedbygningen på Dalen blindeskole ble oppført 1907-12 (ark. Johan Osness). Den var finansiert av Thonning Owesens legat. Samme år som bygningen stod ferdig, ble det også installert et pipeorgel, tegnet av arkitekt Osness og bygd av Brødrene Torkildsen, Levanger. Orgelet ble ramponert under den annen verdenskrig og erstattet med et nytt 1962. Orgelet er nå restaurert og plassert i nybygget Glassgården.
