Summary[edit]
DescriptionDIC speciation.png |
English: The graph depicts the output a geochemical reaction path model to illustrate how DIC speciation changes in response to changes in pH. Reactions that consume hydrogen ions lower hydrogen ion activity and thus increase pH. As such, they work to transform dissolved carbon dioxide (CO2(aq)) into bicarbonate (HCO3-) and carbonate (CO32-). Reactions that produce hydrogen ions do the opposite. Species distributions shown in this figure were calculated using the React module of The Geochemist’s Workbench software for a solution with an ionic strength of 20 mmolal and an initial carbon dioxide gas fugacity of 0.1. |
