Object history |
Deutsch: Ende des 8. Jahrhunderts gründeten Missionsmönche in Stöttwang ein Kloster, das 831 in den Besitz des Fürststifts Kempten überging. Das Kloster diente der Abtei seitdem als Propstei. Das Fürststift vergab 1386 seine Stöttwanger Besitzungen zu Lehen und gab 1692 das Lehensrecht an das Spital Kaufbeuren ab, behielt aber den Kirchensatz und das Patronatsrecht über die Pfarrei bis zur Säkularisation 1803. Die Teilung von Rot und Blau stellt das Wappen des Fürststifts Kempten dar und damit die langjährige Zugehörigkeit von Stöttwang zu dieser Abtei. Das Schwert und der Palmzweig weisen als Attribute auf die örtlichen Patrone Gordian und Epimachus. Der Stern ist dem Wappen der Reichsstadt Kaufbeuren entnommen. Stöttwang stand unter der Landeshoheit von Kaufbeuren. Der Abtstab stammt aus dem Wappen des Pfarrers Johann Martin Klein, der um 1751 den Neubau der Pfarrkirche St. Gordian und Epimachus veranlasste. |
