Object history
Deutsch: Die Initiale L ist seit 1512 in Siegeln des früheren Marktfleckens Lorch belegt. Im Jahre 1934 gelangte der staufische Löwe in das Wappen der 1865 zur Stadt erhobenen ehemaligen Gemeinde. Der am 1. Januar 1972 durch Vereinigung zweier Orte entstandenen neuen Stadt Lorch hat das Landratsamt Ostalbkreis am 11. Juli 1978 das Wappen ihrer gleichnamigen Vorgängerin samt deren Flagge verliehen. Die Farben und der Löwe aus dem Wappen der staufischen Herzöge von Schwaben werden seither als Hinweise auf deren Beziehungen zu den Stadtteilen Lorch (Stifts- und Klostergründung sowie Grablege) und Waldhausen (Burg) verstanden.
