Das Dörnbacher Wappen „zeigt in Rot einen schwarzen Dornenkranz, belegt mit einem silbernen Querbach. 1723 gebrauchte Dörnbach ein eigenes Gerichtssiegel, das den Schild mit dem Bach zeigt, umgeben von dem Dornenkranz. Es ist ein redendes Wappen.“ (Dörnbacher Chronik, Seiten 14 – 16) Das Wappenbild hat also nichts mit dem echten Ursprung Namen Dörnbach zu tun. „Redendes Wappen“ bedeutet, dass die Namenserklärung durch die Wappenzeichnung auf einer volkstümlichen, einfachen Umdeutung beruht: das Wesen Dörnbachs wird so aufgefasst, wie es gesprochen wird. Grund aller solcher Umdeutungen von Ortsnamen ist das Sprechbewusstsein“ von Menschen, die Sprache im Alltag nutzen, sie aber nicht als Forschungsgebiet sehen – darüber hinaus können Orts- und Zeitumstände seine Deutung beeinflussen. Genehmigt am 27.10.1952 vom Ministerium des Innern in Mainz. Das Wappen entspricht einem alten Gerichtssiegel von 1723 (LA.Speyer, A 14, Nr. 74). |
