Description
Deutsch: Wappen des ehemaligen Amtes Alpen-Veen: „In Rot ein erhöhter goldener (gelber) Zinnenturm mit schwarzem geschindelten Spitzdach und goldener (gelber) Abschlusskugel, beseitet von je einer silbernen (weißen) Pflugschar.“ Der Zinnenturm ist dem alten Schöffensiegel der früheren Stadt Alpen (bis 1800) entnommen und deutet auf die ehemalige Befestigung der Stadt hin. Die Pflugscharen stammen aus dem Wappen von Veen. Die Farben Rot und Gold weisen auf das Herzogtum Kleve hin, zu dem die Gemeinden Birten und Veen gehörten; Schwarz und Silber symbolisieren die Verbundenheit von Alpen und Menzelen zum Erzbistum Köln.
English: Gules, a raised castellated tower Or with a roof, sable on the top a roundel Or, accampanied from two plowshares Argent. The arms were officially granted on October 17, 1962. The tower is taken from the old seal of the city of Alpen and refers to the old fortifications of the city. The two plough irons are taken from the historical seal of Veen. The red and gold colours refer to the Duchy of Kleve, to which Birten and Veen historically belonged; whereas silver and black refer to the State of Köln, to which Alpen and Menzelen belonged.
