Description
Deutsch: Wappen der Stadt Lengerich von 1939 - 1948: „In Silber (Weiß) über einem erhöhten grünen Dreiberg, belegt mit einem silbernen (weißen) Schild, darin zwei blaue Balken, drei balkenweise gestellte ausgebrochene rote Seerosenblätter.“ Der Dreiberg symbolisiert die Lage am Südhang des Teutoburger Waldes, der kleine Schild ist das Wappen der einflussreichen Adelsfamilie von Münster zu Vortlage, welche vom 13. bis zum 17. Jahrhundert in Lengerich ihren Wohnsitz hatten. Die Seerosenblätter entstammen dem Wappen der Grafschaft Tecklenburg, zu dem die Stadt früher gehörte.
English: „Argent, above a triple mountain vert, charged with an escutcheon Argent with two fesses azure, three barry water lily leaves gules.“ The arms were granted on April 3rd, 1939. The triple mountain symbolises the location in the southern slopes of the Teutoburger Wald. The three water lily leaves are derived from the arms of the County of Tecklenburg. The small shield with two blue bars are the arms of the Lords of Münster, who lived on the Vortlage castle near Lengerich.
