The history of British computer hardware development has been obscured by the secrecy imposed by Winston Churchill after WWII. The DEUCE computer was the production model of the Pilot ACE computer developed by Alan Turing at the National Physical Laboratory in 1950. It was manufactured under license by the English Electric Company. Only c30 machhines were produced, in the period 1955 - 1964
