Thedotted lines crossing each other indicate steam ports.It should be remembered that the reversing valve thatcontrols the admission of steam to the right-handcylinder is located under the left cylinder and viceversa. Both slide valves are in their bottom positions in thecut, Fig. 239, and as steam enters the valve chamberunder the left-hand piston, it passes on through portg to the valve chamber under the. right-hand piston,and live steam also passes through the pert marked bto the under side of the right-hand piston, and at thesame time passes up through the port c to the topside of the left-hand piston. The steam pressureaccumulated under the right-hand, or low-pressurepiston, forces it up as shown in Fig. 240.
