On flat cars and gondolas thesignal is shown from the sides of the car, oneon each end. On passenger trains the signal islocated at the side of the door in both ends of thecar, so that the signal can be seen at once by theconductor or brakeman, regardless of the direction inwhich they might be going when passing through thetrain. The Westinghouse Air Pump. The air pump, beinglocated on the engine, and directly under the super-vision of the engineer, will be first considered.
