| Description |
English: Cycling Up Hambleton Street. Brilliant purple heather to the side of Hambleton Street, an ancient drove road that runs from Swainby (NZ4702) southwards along the top of the hills until it reaches Oldstead (SE5380). It allowed beasts to be driven to markets in York without having to pay tolls on roads in the Vales of Mowbray & York. It was also used by English & Scottish armies in raids north & south in the 11th-14thC. |
