Summary[edit]
DescriptionCwmhir Abbey - geograph.org.uk - 1581872.jpg |
English: Cwmhir Abbey The ruins of Abbey Cwmhir lie in the secluded valley of the Clywedog brook in a remote location typical of those chosen by the Cistercian order. The foundation dates to 1176. It contains the grave of Llewelyn ap Gruffydd who died in 1282. Cwmhir passed to the powerful Mortimer family, who neglected it in favour of Wigmore Abbey; it never fully recovered from the damage inflicted in 1402 during the Glyndwr uprising. |
