Summary[edit]

Description
English: Crossing from Down into Louth This is the international frontier between the UK and the Republic of Ireland with Co Down on the left of the sign and Co Louth on the right. In the past, before the UK and the Republic of Ireland became members of the EU, main roads crossing the border were controlled by custom posts and, at times, delays could be significant. Today, except for a change in speed limit signs from miles to kms, there is little to show that one has moved from one sovereign state to another. The sign at this point merely states that one is entering Co Louth. Certainly, the weather takes no note of man made political boundaries - today the hoar frost continued seamlessly southwards beyond the border.
