Summary[edit]

Description
English: U.S. Navy Flight deck crews put out flames after a Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat of Fighting Squadron 2 (VF-2, plane no. 30) crashed into the port side 20mm gallery ab aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CV-6), 10 November 1943. The pilot, Ensign Byron M. Johnson, escaped serious injury. The plane was pushed over the side. Enterprise was then en route to support the Gilbert Islands campaign.
