They were used for a great variety of passenger and freight trains. In 1965, they were mainly for mid-level passenger trains. Top speed was 100 kph (62 mph). Some remained in regular service until 1974. The locomotive had a 2 C (4-6-0) wheel arrangement. Crailsheim was the major railroad junction in the area, We changed trains in Crailsheim on most of our train trips. It was an area where steam locomotives remained in service longer, as they were replaced by electric and diesel locomotives in other parts of Germany. I bought an original set of number plates of a class 38 locomotive that had been scrapped in the late 1960s. I still have the plates displayed on a wall at home.
