Notes The increase in trade between England and the Far East engendered a fascination for things Chinese and an exchange in motifs and patterns in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. This brightly coloured ‘armorial’ bedcover, though made in China, is decorated in imitation of both English and Chinese naturalistic animal and plants and realistically rendered. It would have been ordered from England and worked by Chinese embroiderers. In the centre and corners are family shields and crests.
