Summary[edit]

Description
English: Covenanters' Graves. This photo was taken in the "local churchyard" referred to in 937540; seen here are the graves of the two women and the three men who were discussed in that article.

The recumbent stone in the foreground is the grave of "Margrat Willson" (Margaret Wilson), and, behind it, the upright stone on the right is that of "Margrat Lachlane" (Margaret McLaughlin), these being the two women who were executed by drowning (according to tradition, this took place at the location of the present-day Martyr's Stake).

The upright stone on the left is that of the three Covenanter men who were hanged at the same time.

See also 964954, honouring the same Margaret Wilson whose grave is featured here.

[These stones were featured, and the story of the two Margarets recounted, in the second part of the television programme "Grace Notes", a two-part journey through the music of Scottish Christianity; the programme was presented by the musician/composer Phil Cunningham, and was broadcast on BBC Two (Scotland) on Saturday 21 Feb 2009.]
