I spent my first 23 years on the Great Prarie. It was a place of flatness with a view of the horizon all around you. Cold and brutal in the winter, it was a Green Wonderland in the summer. Blue sky with fluffy white clouds moving just above your head. In late summer the corn and bean fields were over pregnant with their produce.
I don't get back much any more, but in 2013 I was there for a reunion and spent time driving the country roads. When I was a lad, these roads were gravel and without name. Now most of them had been paved with asphalt. We used to call it blacktop.
But other than the roads, the view was the same if you discount those ugly wind turbines which have sprouted up all over.

I can just stand and look the horizon for a long time. I don't get to see it much out in the greater LA area. I'll just turn slowly and let my eyeballs stretch, as my Dad used to say.
