ense-account work requires the approval of the shopsuperintendent. MUSTERING THE WORKMEN. There are several satisfactory methods for mustering theworkmen. When the plant consists of a number of shopsmore or less scattered, it is necessary to have a check at theworkmens entrance and also at their places of work. Thiscan best be done in the following manner: A brass-numberedcheck is issued to each workman, the number being the work-mans number for the payroll, for tool issues and for charg-ing time. Check boards, one for each shop or trade, are atthe entrance to the plant, and the workman as he comes inhangs the check on a hook under his number; when he goesout he removes the check. In this way the checks also serveas a pass into the works. The illustration, Fig. 4, shows thechecking station for a large establishment with scatteredshops. Employees arriving late are passed in on special reportsmade by the gate keeper to the main time office; those leavingat other than the regular quitting time are passed out on fore-mans passes which are taken up at the gate and turned in to the main office. In the shops and other places of work there are registeringclocks on which each workman is required to register arrivaland departure. The clocks also serve to register on the serv-ice cards the time of beginning and completing each job. Ifthe clocks are used for the latter purpose, more than oneclock will be required for each shop, unless the shop is small,or much time will be lost in workmen going from work to the clock.
