Summary[edit]

Description
English: Cornish hedges A typical Cornish lane with high banks and over hanging trees forming a Cornish hedge. The typical Cornish hedge is a stone-faced earth hedgebank with bushes or trees growing along the top. The hedges can be constructed of earth banks or bare stone, much like a traditional dry stone wall. They can become encrusted with lichens and mosses, or totally disappear under plant life, as in this example. Hedges are Corwall's largest semi-natural wildlife resource and most prominent landscape feature, providing wildlife routes across arable fields and open pasture. They provide extensive and various micro-climates depending on their position. The Cornish Hedge Group has been set up to record and monitor the hedges.
