Summary[edit]

Description
English: This exhibit at the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York shows typical examples of "Rich Cut" glass, the late-19th century stylistic iteration of American cut glass. Eschewing the simplicity that characterized the mid-19th century output of the nation's glasshouses, the Rich Cut style is elegant and elaborate, leaving almost no surface bereft of ornamentation. Though the Northeast remained the epicenter of American glassmaking, this era also saw a significant expansion of the industry's geographic footprint, perhaps best exemplified by the New England Glass Company's move to Toledo, Ohio in 1888, where it was renamed Libbey Glass. As seen in the "35 Centuries of Glass" gallery during an April 2022 visit to the museum.
