Title
Copper alloy Box fitting
Description
English: A late medieval or postmedieval box mount, copper alloy. Broadly rectangular, strap-like form, with rounded ends and extending pointed terminal projections. The main body is divided up into 5 subrectangular fields. Alternating fields are raised in high relief, ornamented with cross-hatch decoration. Two holes (one close to each terminal) mark the positions of rivets or nails used to fix the mount to a casket or similar. Traces of gilding remain.
