Description

Situado na margem esquerda do Rio Mondego e implantado a uma cota muito baixa, este templo gótico, construído no final do século XIII, foi abandonado no século XVII devido às constantes inundações provocadas pelo rio. 

A operação de recuperação e de valorização da igreja em ruínas, actualmente em curso, envolve também escavações arqueológicas no terreno adjacente que têm permitido, para além do desenterramento da igreja, trazer à luz o remanescente do claustro principal, conhecido apenas através de descrições antigas.
O templo ruiu devido à força das águas, e as cantarias, inacessíveis, mantiveram-se no local, pelo que este trabalho constitui um verdadeiro "puzzle" de grandes dimensões para os arqueólogos.
