| Description |
English: As seen in August 2021: a sign at the New York State Thruway's Chittenango Service Area advises motorists headed to the fuel pumps at the Sunoco gas station (which, unlike the rest of the facility, remains operational) of the unavailability of restaurants and restrooms. The previous month, the New York State Thruway Authority kicked off a $450 million Service Area Modernization Project which would see all of the 27 such areas along the Thruway extensively redeveloped with a long list of updated amenities. The first phase of the project entailed the closure of ten of the Thruway's service areas, including Chittenango. The onsite fuel stations, which operate under a separate contract with the Thruway Authority, are in all cases to remain open throughout the process, which is scheduled to be completed by 2025. |
