Description
Português: Conselheiro Henrique de Barros Gomes (Lisboa, 14 de setembro de 1843 — Alcanhões, 15 de novembro de 1898).

Político português, ligado ao Partido Progressista, que entre outras funções foi: deputado, diretor do Banco de Portugal e ministro dos Negócios da Fazenda, dos Negócios Estrangeiros e da Marinha e Ultramar.

Reformador e impulsionador do novo regime de Contabilidade Pública, que no essencial predominaria até à atualidade e que introduziu importantes inovações tributárias: décima de juros e o imposto de selo.

Notabilizou-se pela forma como lidou com a crise colonial suscitada pelas questões emergentes da recusa do mapa cor-de-rosa e do ultimato britânico de 1890.

Foi sócio fundador da Sociedade de Geografia de Lisboa e vice-presidente da Associação Comercial de Lisboa e da Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa.

Foi agraciado com diversas condecorações nacionais e estrangeiras.

English: Henrique de Barros Gomes (Lisbon, 14 September 1843 - Alcanhões, 15 November 1898).

Portuguese politician, linked to the Progressive Party, which among other functions was: deputy, director of Banco de Portugal and minister of Finance, Foreign Affairs and the Navy and Overseas.

Reformer and promoter of the new Public Accounting regime, which would essentially prevail until today and which introduced important tax innovations: tenth interest and stamp duty.

He was notable for the way he dealt with the colonial crisis raised by the issues emerging from the refusal of the pink map and the British ultimatum of 1890.

He was a founding partner of the Lisbon Geographical Society and vice-president of the Lisbon Commercial Association and the Portuguese Red Cross.

He was awarded several national and foreign decorations.
