Implantatet placeras under huden bakom örat. Elektrodraden placeras i hörsnäckan via mellanörat. 1. Ljudprocessorn tar upp ljud och omvandlar den till en digital signal. 2. Ljudprocessorn skickar det digitalt kodade ljudet till implantatet under huden via sändarspolen. 3. Implantatet tar emot signalen via sin mottagarspole, omvandlar det digitalt kodade ljudet och sänder ut signaler via elektrodraden. 4. Elektrodraden stimulerar hörsnäckans nervfibrer vilka skickar signaler vidare till hjärnan som producerar hörupplevelsen. |
