Coat of arms of Prince Friedrich Wilhelm Carl of Wütemburg (1754-1816)

Summary[edit]

Description
English: 1793 Coat of arms of Prince Friedrich Wilhelm Carl of Wütemburg (1754-1816), who from 1806 was King Frederick I of Wütemburg. He was the ruler of Württemberg from 1797 to his death, firstly from 1797 to 1803 as the last Duke of Württemberg, then from 1803 to 1806 as the first and only Elector of Württemberg, and lastly from 1806 as the first King of Wütemburg, Württemberg having been raised to a kingdom in 1806 with the approval of Napoleon I.

Heraldry

1793 paternal coat of arms of Prince Frederick of Württemberg (1754-1816), as heir apparent to his father's Duchy; from 1797 he was Frederick II, Duke of Württemberg and from 1806 King Frederick I of Württemberg: Arms of the Duchy of Württemberg (1707-1789): Duchy of Teck quartering Arch-Bannerbearer of the Holy Roman Empire, Mömpelgard/Montbéliard, Heidenheim, overall an inescutcheon of Württemberg; his inescutcheon adds party per fess in chief a Cross of the Order of St Hubert, this depiction stating that he was invested with that Order on 2 May 1793. The Collar of the Order of St Hubert hangs below the shield, comprising crowned red roundels enamelled with three golden hunting horns of St Hubert in annulo, alternating with golden eagles. The Order of St Hubert, now the Order of the Württemberg Crown (Orden der Württembergischen Krone) was an order of chivalry in Württemberg first established in 1702 as the St.-Hubertus-Jagdorden (Order of St Hubert), in 1807 it was renamed the "Ritterorden vom Goldenen Adler" (Order of the Golden Eagle) by King Frederick I of Württemberg, and on 23 September 1818 renewed and restructured (at the same time as the civil orders) by William I as the "Order of the Württemberg Crown" with (initially) 3 classes (grand cross, komtur, knight). In 1918 the order was expanded and changed.
