Notes Embroidered souvenir cushion cover - Souvenir of the Great War, France Collected during WW1 by Herbert Sidney Luxon, Royal Engineers Features stevengraph embroidered illustrations of burning churches at Peronne, Ypres, Nieuport, and St. Quentin 2656 Private Sidney Luxon, of Tiverton, Devon, went to France with the Royal Engineers in 1914, becoming a member of the 'Old Contemptibles'. He drove an ambulance throughout the war, and was wounded by shrapnel while on ambulance duty in France and returned to the United Kingdom His marriage certificate (6th December 1918) lists Sidney's occupation as "Private, 5th Corps, No. 2656 Troop Motor Transport coy. B.E.F. France, Chauffeur". The cushion cover was brought to New Zealand by his daughter who migrated to New Zealand with her husband in the late 1960s.
