| Description |
English: The Farmington Civic Theater, 33332 Grand River Avenue, Farmington, Michigan, December 2020. Opened in 1940, the architectural design - the work of Detroit architect C. Howard Crane - takes its main influence from the then-trending Streamline Moderne style, but adds a slight touch of the Mayan Revivalism that was more popular in 1920s and '30s-era theater architecture: witness the warm color scheme of purples, oranges and reds as well as the chevron pattern around the marquee. The theater has been continuously operational since its opening; the City of Farmington purchased it in 1999 from the family that originally owned it, and it now plays host to a varied schedule of film screenings and live performances. |
