Summary[edit]

Description

My rental car, being returned after two days on the road.

I had driven to Canterbury and Stonehenge in this car.

It marked many firsts for me. It was my first right-hand-drive car, my first car with manual transmission, and my first European car. Trying to keep the car from stalling was a major challenge, especially during the first few hours as I also fought the Central London traffic at the same time, but by the time I took the drive to Stonehenge, the experience was almost leisurely.

It was also nice to listen away to some key London radio stations as I drove (such as Heart 106.2 and Capital 95.8), and also to be intrigued by the self-leveling height adjustable air suspension (after all, this is indeed a Citroën).

Citroën has been my favorite "want-one-but-can't-get-one" automotive brand ever since. If I had a ton of money and good enough of skills to maintain antique cars, I would gladly acquire a Citroën DS in a heartbeat.

In the Citroën lineup, the Xantia, designed by Bertone in 1993, slotted right below the flagship XM. It had replaced the venerable BX from the 1980s, and in turn was replaced by the C5 in the current Citroën lineup. Its primary competitors included the Ford Mondeo, the Opel Vectra, and the Renault Laguna. The Xantia was also a rare Citroën that had a name rather than an alphanumeric model code; its smaller contemporary sisters, the Xsara and the Saxo, also share the distinction.
