Summary[edit]
DescriptionWassailing with cider toast at Maplehurst, West Sussex.jpg |
English: Cider Toast. In this part of the wassail a "virgin" hangs cider soaked toast in the branches of the tree. The robins will eat the toast and carry away any evil soaked up by the toast. This is then followed by singing a wassailing song reading a verse and then making as much noise as possible to scare away any residual evil sprits. In former times a shotgun would be discharged into the branches. Health & safety requirements now mean the shotgun is fired at a safe distance from the crowd. Finally the very most important part of the wassail is undertaken, 306030 the result of the wassail from at least two years ago. |
