English: Ciao Adele - advertising poster by a poster agency in Vienna in February 2006, commenting on the fact that Gustav Klimt's painting Adele Bloch-Bauer I was turned over to Maria Altmann, inheritor of its former owner, in Los Angeles
Deutsch: Ciao Adele - eines der Plakate, die in Wien im Februar 2006 affichiert wurden, nachdem die Entscheidung gefallen war, dass Gustav Klimts Gemälde Adele Bloch-Bauer I an Maria Altmann, die Erbin des ursprünglichen Besitzers, übergeben und somit aus der Österreichischen Galerie im Belvedere nach Los Angeles übersiedeln wird.

A quote from a contemporary visitor, Konstantin Akinsha, provides the context for this poster:

“ The last stage of the Klimt farce was realized through the same means of mechanic reproduction. Posters with the image of the “Austrian Mona Lisa” and the words “Ciao, Adele” covered hundred billboards around the city overnight. Nobody knew who was behind this advertising campaign and the posters provoked a lot of speculations. Soon it was proved that an advertising company owning the billboards cast this last farewell to Klimt’s oeuvre. The catharsis of the “Ciao, Adele” advertising effort was the slogan stating that Adele is leaving, but good advertising is staying. ”
