| Description |
English: Charles Jones Sassara III (1930—2020), known as "Chuck" (not to be confused with his oldest son known as "Charlie", a well-known mountain climber and often referred to as Charles J. Sassara III in contemporary sources) is an American retired aviator, businessman and politician. Sassara came to Alaska in the 1950s and was one of the early figures in establishing Big Lake, Alaska as a resort area. He served as a Democrat in the Alaska House of Representatives from 1965 to 1971 and was majority leader during his final term. During his early years in Alaska, he flew for Ray Christiansen out of Bethel Airport and became a test pilot for experimental aircraft in later life. He was also a real estate developer. His autobiography was published in 2015. |
