On peut aussi y trouver des vertébrés (salamandres, amphibiens, chauve-souris), qui s'y réfugient (provisoirement ou pour passer l'hiver). la zone («sous-corticale») est riche en insectes, araignées, cloportes et mille-pattes, importants pour le bon ensemencement du bois-mort par les communautés saproxyliques. Lieu : Bois de la citadelle à lille, dans le nord de la France..
