Summary[edit]

Description
English: Description: Cholent pot, Eastern Europe, ca. 1700. Copper, hammered, repousse. Decorated with floral scrolls and cartouche containing Hebrew letters. Cover has vent with small movable cover. Although cholent was the standard Sabbath meal, it is rare to find pots such as this one. The Hebrew inscription may be the owner's initials. They might have helped identify the pot, which may have been taken to a communal oven before the Sabbath and collected after services Sabbath morning.
