Description Tab. LXXXII. Historische Vorstellungen. Fortsetzung. Das Äußere der Peterskirche; 504 Fuß hoch, 424 Fuß breit und 570 Fuß tief, von korinthischer Ordnung. Die auf beiden Seiten gerade herausstehenden Gebäude werden durch zwei kreisförmige Kolonnaden, von Dorischer Ordnung, fortgesetzt. In der Mitte eine prächtige Pyramide, 130 Palmen hoch, aus einem Felsstück in Egyptven gehauen, und von Sixtus V. durch den Baumeister Fontana hier aufgerichtet. Zur Rechten der Kirche das Vatikan. Der Papst segnet in einer großen Versammlung die Katholiken, und verdammt alle Ketzer mit den Worten: So, wie ich diese brennende Fackel aus dem Fenster werfe, so wird auch Gott die Ketzer verwerfen. Er ist in dieser Stellung auf dem Balkon über der mittelsten Türe.(Beschreibung lt. Quelle)
