Summary[edit]

Description

School distribution is ideal for places with high rates of enrollment, since it will allow us to reach most families with children. We leverage the infrastructure of the school system. We use student registers instead of registering households and use teachers to distribute nets. Further, many schools have storage sites that can store nets for a short period of time. Ghana is taking school distribution nationwide and it is part of their Malaria Control Strategy. In addition to schools, Ghana is distributing nets through ANC, EPI, and retail. A mass campaign was conducted to raise coverage and a continuous distribution system was used to sustain it. By using a mathematical model, they found that using these approaches could ensure that over 80% of households had an LLIN continuously even years after a mass campaign. By choosing a mix of antenatal care, schools, health facility or community health workers to distribute nets, malaria program planners across Africa are using data to carefully evaluate their options and select the mix that is best for them.
