Summary[edit]

Description My mom is on the right. 34 Walton Ave. Sherbrooke, Que, Jan. 30, 1944 Dear Dorothy, I was indeed very glad to receive your letter right at Christmas time. It was a surprise to know that you were attending Alma this year and more so to learn that Bob was married - also that Gladys engaged. Things surely did happen in your family in 1943 eh? Glad to know that Bob finally got in Airforce Blue. Where is he now? Will you please pass on to him & to his bride our congratulations? I told Patsy she wasn't Bob's girl any longer now. I think Patsy, Douglas and Glynn remember Aylmer quite well but not Sandra. You would see a big change in the children. Sandra is a big girl and has lost her first tooth - but doesn't go to school yet. Patsy is tall too and has been rather looking queer as she had two upper front teeth out at once but they are coming in now. The boys too have grown and are real business men. They have now 86 daily papers to deliver. They have ordered a new C.C.M. bicycle each for Feb. Will pay for them themselves. Glynn in Grade 5 is ranked for the first this year and came in fourth in his grade of 31 boys. His percentage was just over 90. Douglas doesn't take anything at school very seriously and came around tenth in his class I guess. They only get A, B & C's etc. instead of marks. Patsy does well too and is more like Glynn - takes it seriously. None of the four has missed a Sunday at Sunday School since last September. Of course Brian is the family pride and joy. The children all think he is perfect and so do his Dad & Mother. At seven months, he weighs 18 1/2 pounds and has two teeth. He rolls all over the floors or pushes himself backwards till he gets stuck under the stove, tables, chairs etc. He always has the grandest smile. Its great to have a baby to put to bed all smiles at six o'clock and never wakens until six in the morning. Wish you could see him. Harvard and Mary's son was born on August 3rd - the day after Doris' birthday! He weighted 9 pounds 11 ounces! They call him Larry. Guess their little girl Lynda is pretty cute. She was 3 last October. I haven't seen Mother or Doris since January 1943 and Dad, Gena or Harvard since August 1942. I was never away from home so long before. Doris had chicken pox at Christmas, then Gena got them and was quite sick. Lynda had them but very slightly. Where is your boyfriend now? My uncle (the Chaplain of an anti aircraft regiment) has been in Sicily and Italy. His letters are none too cheerful and he has spent three Christmases away from his family of four daughters - the ages of our first family. Tell your Mother I often think of her and envy her the little home! I am always glad to hear from you and get news from Aylmer. Mr Wilson had dinner with us Nov. 28th - Patsy's seventh birthday. Well Dorothy, this is a long letter for me. Do write soon and don't forget to remember all of us to all of you. As Ever, Merle A few of Nanna's letters were returned to Mom by Dorothy (Truman) Anderson. Dorothy wrote a book regarding growing up in Aylmer. It includes a passage about meeting Nanna and baby sitting the Reynolds children. Dorothy's boyfriend (#420253 615 Squadron RAF,, Pilot Officer Malcolm Pain) mentioned in the letter was sadly killed in the war while stationed in India.
